Born Dec., 7, 1918, in Timewell, Ralph was a son of Robert Thomas and Rozella Domican Varner. He married Winifred Johnson on April 3, 1950, in Quincy. She survives
Ralph was a charter member of Faith Christian Church, Mount Sterling Masonic Lodge No. 44 and Quincy Consistory. Ralph was instrumental in organizing the Timewell American Legion Post No. 1059. He enjoyed roller skating, bowling and playing checkers.
Mr. Varner served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. A 1937 graduate of Mount Sterling High School, Ralph farmed for several years in the Timewell area until moving to Quincy in 1963 where he worked in the housekeeping department at St. Mary's Hospital and as a security guard at Gardner Denver Company for 20 years until his retirement.

Mr. Varner was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, David Roy Varner; and two sisters, Mary Ann Brake and Roberta Bond.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct 27, 2009) in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with a Mount Sterling Masonic Lodge No. 44 service at 7 p.m.
Also Wednesday (Oct 28, 2009)at 9 a.m. until time of services.
SERVICES: 10 a.m. Wednesday in Faith Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Henry Pratt and the Rev. Matt Worstell. B
Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
