Born Jan. 6, 1927, in Quincy, Winifred was a daughter of Guy O. and Letha Grace George Johnson. She married Harold Ralph Varner on April 21, 1950, in Quincy. He died Oct. 26, 2009.
Winifred was employed at St. Mary Hospital as a nurses' aid for several years. She then became a security guard for Pinkertons and Burns Security Agencies at Gardner Denver Co. from 1975 until her retirement in 1993.
Winifred was a charter member of Faith Christian Church. She enjoyed playing checkers and listening to music. She also sang in the Quincy High School and Faith Christian Church choirs.
Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, friends and her church family.
Mrs. Varner was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven sisters, Vivian McCormick, Audrey Dean Hastings, Verna Langan, Hazel Reynolds, Lillian "Dolly" Sturhan, and two infant sisters, Bonnie Jean and Letha Johnson; and four brothers, Russell, Richard, Ora and Harold Johnson.
SERVICES: 11 a.m. Friday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Henry Pratt and the Rev. Matt Worstell conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. Friday until time of services in the funeral home.
MEMORIALS: Faith Christian Church.
