Obituary: Tipton Tribune - May 18, 1925 (Monday)
Mrs. Martha Russell, age 70, a well known Windfall resident, died at 5 o'clock Monday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Hughes inElwood. She had been ill a long time with heart disease and paralysis but only recently had gone to the daughter's home in Elwood.
The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock ath the Baptist church in Elwood and the burial will take place at Fairview in this city. Rev. Polly Couch Bowman will be in charge of the services.
The deceased was 70 years of age Sunday. She was born in Fayette county, being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Retherford. She was married to Rev. George Russell, a Baptist minister who died about twelve years ago. Most of her married life was spent in the Windfall community. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. John Vawter of Elwood.
Mrs. Russell is also survived by one sister, two half-sisters and five half-brothers, they being respectively, Mrs. Ada Stanley of Rochester, Mrs. Laura Myers of Newcastle, Mrs. Alice Durbin of Clarksville, John Retherford of Winamac, Charles and William of Curtisville, George of Hagerstown, and Cleve of Alexandria.
Mrs. Russell was deeply interested in religious work and belonged to the Baptist church nearly all her life. She leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her death.
