Mrs. Betty Carol Russell Sumner, 52, died suddenly Sunday (Mar. 12, 2006) at Satilla Regional Medical Center.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. She graduated from Ware County High School and Waycross/Ware Technical School. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who loved working with children. She was a lifelong member of Grace Chapel where she was the children's pastor, taught Sunday School and children's worship. She also mentored at Center Elementary School.
She is the daughter of the late James Russell, Sr. She is also preceded in death by a sister, Donna Marie Russell.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Gerald Roger Sumner, Sr. of Waycross; two sons, Gerald Roger Sumner, Jr. (wife Carolina) and Timothy Russell Sumner (wife Pollyana); a daughter, Ivey Marie Sumner; a grandchild, Johanna Sumner; her mother, Christine Sloan Russell of Waycross; two brothers, Henry Rolland Russell (wife Susan) and James "Rusty" Russell, Jr. (wife Donna) both of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday (Mar. 15, 2006) at Grace Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Music Funeral Home.
