01 JAN 2021, SAC to add YOM and Sr. suffix. ~Eugene Willard Gritts was born on January 2, 1925 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma the son of Stephen Peter Gritts and Bessie (Sypes) Gritts.
He was raised in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. As a young man, he lived in Tahlequah and traveled the Midwest, and had also lived in California and Alaska. In 1964 he moved to Knoxville to work on the Red Rock Dam Project. A few years later he moved to Pleasantville. He was an inspector for Maytag for 18 years, retiring in 1987. The last four years he had resided in Indianola.
He raised his family on a farm west of Pleasantville, off of highway 92.
Eugene enjoyed raising horses, and all sports, especially football. He was a mechanically-minded person and liked to work with his hands. Above all, he was a family man and cherished every minute he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Eugene passed away on Friday, March 10, 2000 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 75.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two grand-daughters and one grandson.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Pamela of Pleasantville; two sons: Phillip of Tulsa OK and Eugene Jr. of Milo; five daughters: Sally Watkins of Roland OK, Jeanette Quinnett of Des Moines, Tammy Kappelman if Swan, Betsy Russell of Indianola, and Anessa Gritts of Plesantville; two brothers, Jay W. and Arlie of Tahlequah Ok; sister, Bonnie Arnold of Oklahoma City OK; 17 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many other beloved family members and friends.
