DIED: In Dresden, Tenn, Feb 28th of typhoid fever, Edwin B. Learned--Formerly of Bangor, aged 41; son of the late Erastus Learned, of Westminster, Conn.
Edwin Bacon Learned is listed in the 1850 census for Dresden Tennessee with his wife Susan Saulsbury who was 19 and their one year old daughter Mary. His occupation was Merchant.
In the 1860 census they are still living in Dresden. Their daughter Mary is now 11 years old and they have a daughter named Lena who is 6 as well as Margaret who is 2.
In A history of Tennessee and Tennesseans Edwin Learned is listed as a "prosperous tobacco manufacturer". His daughter Margaret married Dr. William Newton Holmes.
After the death of Edwin, Susan married Archibald Swepson "Swep" Davis on February 4, 1863 in Dresden Tennessee.
Edwin Learned's daughter Lena Jane was born about 1854 in Weakley County. She married her stepfather's brother Robert Young Davis in Carroll County in 1874. They had at least one son named Eddie who appears in the 1880 census, probably named after her father Edwin. Lena died prior to 1889, that's when her husband Robert married Martha Francis McCall.
