On Tuesday, July 31, occurrred the death of one of our pioneer citizens, Mrs. W.L. Phillips, mother of our neighbors, William and Charles Phillips and Mrs. George Cook. Mrs. Phillips was in her 83rd year. She spent the early part of her life in the friends among the early settlers here. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church Saturday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. Lee, and all that was left of this good woman listed tenderly to rest beside her husband in the Prescott Cemetery, her husband having preceded her several years ago. The funeral was largely attended by the many friends of the deceased and her surviving children.

Sarah Caroline Lapsley was the eldest of at least five children born to Dr. Joseph Cyrus Lapsley and Elizabeth Brockman. She was born in Missouri.

She lived in Missouri until at least 1860 in places such as Jefferson and Center.

On 26 Feb 1864 she married William Lewis Phillips in Bourbon County, Kansas. To this union at least seven children were born: Andrew Joseph, Charles Robert, James William, George Washington, Mary Francis, Berty Leroy, Lucinda Elizabeth.

While in Kansas she lived in Sheridan, Mound City, and Prescott.
