Sister Mary Rudolph, 94, oldest member of the Sisters of Saint Francis here, and senior member according to religious profession died late Monday in the Motherhouse here. She would have been 95 next Dec. 13. The former Catherine Mayer was born in 1863 in Jordan and came here in 1881 [admitted from Saints Peter and Paul’s Parish, Glencoe] to enter the Congregation of Franciscan Sisters founded here four years previously by Mother Mary Alfred Moes. After completing her postulancy and novitiate, Sister Rudolph was assigned to teaching; her field for more than 50 years. She taught in Adrian and St. James, Minn., and Toledo, Ohio, and served as religious superior and principal of schools staffed by the Franciscan Sisters in Winsted, Minneapolis, Heron Lake, St. Peter, Iona and Rose Creek, Minn., and Portsmouth and Ripley, Ohio. In 1936, ill health caused her retirement and she spent the greater part of her remaining years at the Motherhouse in Rochester. She celebrated her diamond jubilee in 1942, and last August marked the 77th anniversary of her entrance into the congregation. There are no survivors in her immediate family. A sister, Sister M. Alexia, also a member of the order, preceded her in death in 1952. A solemn High Mass was offered at the Motherhouse and burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
