Son of Sanford Mires and Sophrona Deardorff
Robert G. Mires, age 82, a resident of Douglas county since 1900, passed away at his home southeast of Douglas at about 8 o'clock last Sunday night. Services were held at the Thomas mortuary, Tuesday afternoon and the Masonic order of which the deceased had been a member for a great many years, had charge of the services at the grave. Interment was held in the local cemetery.
Robert Gilmore Mires was born in Burlington, Iowa, Feb 29, 1852. He moved to Stockton, California with his parents when he was a small boy, and grew to manhood in that state. When he was a young man he located in the Willamette Valley near Corvallis, and operated a farm there for a number of years.
Mr. Mires cam with his family in Douglas county in the fall of 1900, making the trip overland by covered wagon. ONe month later he moved to a farm east of Waterville, where he had made his home for 27 years.
He is surved by his wife; two sons, Dale and Dell and a daughter La Verne all of Waterville. One daughter, Lois, preceded him in death. He also leaves on son and four daughters by a former marriage; George of New York, Mrs. Edna Darrow, Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Mable Palmer, Glendale, California, Mrs. Stella Fasig, Long Beach California, Mrs. Merel Bowser, St. Helens, Oregon. Besides his children he leaves 17 granchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mires was a man of spendid character and had numerous friends in this community and elsewhere. He was identified with the early development of this section in which he resided for so many years and will be greatly missed by his large number of friends.
