Services for John Wendell McCardle Sr. of Hazlehurst are 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20 at Sardis Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Community Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. at the church.
Mr. McCardle, 76, died of respiratory failure at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital on Oct. 18, 2004.
He was a veteran of World War II and served as a cargo specialist in the Army stationed in Japan. He was a retired poultry farmer and cattleman. He was associated with his father, Wendell McCardle, in the operation of McCardle Telephone Co., which was founded by his grandfather John J. McCardle.
He was a graduate of Union High School and Co-Lin Junior College. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion Henry Groves Post, Jackson. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Hazlehurst. He was married to Edna Saxon McCardle for 51 years.
Survivors are his wife; his son, John Wendell McCardle Jr.; his two grandsons; a niece and several nephews.
