Mrs. Jonkman worked for The Daily Journal for 35 years as a typesetter, retiring in 1986. She was born May 5, 1921 in Highland, IN, the daughter of Dick and Tina Ooms Huizenga. She had been a resident of Lake Village the past 15 years. She had previously lived in Momence for 44 years. She was a 1939 graduate of Griffith High School. She was a member of the Community Christian Reformed Church of Roselawn. She loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She was an organist for 60 years.
Surviving are her husband, Cornelius "Neal" Jonkman, whom she married April 22, 1943 in Highland, IN; four sons and three daughters-in-law, John and Kathy Jonkman of DeMotte, Jerry and Sharon Jonkman of Wheatfield, IN, Norman and Deb Jonkman of Moment, IL, Melvin Jonkman of Hudson, IL; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Donald DeYoung of St. Anne, IL; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; one sister, Johanna Swets of Lansing, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one grandson, Nathaniel Jonkman, one brother-in-law, Clarence Swets, and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Huizenga.
