Samuel Bigham, Jr."S.C." (stone cutter) was the son of William Bigham, Sr and was a farmer. He also was a stone carver and stone cutter in Mecklenburg and Lincoln counties North Carolina.
Family tradition is the Bighams emigrated from Northern Ireland to Pennsylvania about 1730.
Samuel Bigham, Jr. moved to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina about 1771 and married Ursula Granville about 1772. They had eleven children.
He fought in the Battle of Camden, South Carolina during the Revolutionary War serving from North Carolina under General Horatio Gates.
They moved from Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to Lincoln County, North Carolina in 1803. The family moved to Rutherford County, Tennessee in 1816. Samuel & Ursula are buried in the Clark Cemetery and their graves are marked by large stones with no inscription.
