DR. FRED R. ADAMS, 80, DIES;
SERVED DENTISTRY 54 YEARS

Dr. Fred R. Adams, 80, who had practiced dentistry for 54 years, died yesterday at his
home, 177 Midwood St. He was a direct descendant of Henry Adams, one of the first
settlers of Massachusetts Bay Colony.

After graduating from Pennsylvania Dental College in 1894, Dr. Adams practiced in Oneida
County, N.Y., for ten years, and then came to Brooklyn where he practiced 18 years.
Since 1926 he had been in continuous general practice in Manhattan, his office being at
80 W. 40th St.

Dr. Adams, who had lectured before numerous dental societies, was a former president of
the Second District Dental Society of New York and had served as vice president of the
American Dental Association. He also had served as chairman of the Dental Relief Fund
Committee and as chairman of the Relief Commission. While up-state he served as
librarian of the Fifth District Dental Society.

He was a member of the Brooklyn Dental Society, International Society of Physicians and
Dentists, and held fellowships in the International College of Dentists, the Pierre
Fauchard Academy and the American Academy of Oral Surgery.

Dr. Adams was past master of Scononda Lodge, F. & A. M., Vernon, N. Y., and was a member
of St. Elmo Commandery, Knights Templar and Kismet Shrine.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Frank C. Merz of Bridgehampton; Mrs. Leo F. Hanan of
Douglaston and Mrs. Walter L. Reidy, this city; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian A. Spencer of
Utica, N. Y., and Mrs. Bertha A. Bovee of Easton, Pa., and four grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Fairchild Chapel, 951 Atlantic
Ave.
