ANNA M. ADAMS
Was Born at Holland Patent, January 9, 1838, and on April 3, 1870, Became the Wife of Lowville Man.
Mrs. Anna M. Adams, widow of the late Elbridge R. Adams, Lowville, died in the 93rd year of her age on March 28th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Bovee. at Sherrill, death being due to a shock suffered four weeks ago.
Mrs. Adams was born at Holland Patent, January 9, 1838, daughter of Samuel and Asenath Mealus. She was educated at Turin and at Fairfield Seminary. In 1870, April 3, she was married to Elbridge R. Adams, of Lowville. Following their marriage, Mr. And Mrs. Adams resided in Decatur, Ill., for two years, then returned to Lee Center, where they spent 12 years. During this time, Mr. Adams taught at Lee Center and Whitesboro Seminary. In September 1885, they removed to Vernon, where Mr. Adams became principal of the school, which position he held until 1900. Since 1923, after the death of her husband, Mrs. Adams has resided with her two daughters, Mrs. Lillian A. Spencer, 166 Grove Place, Utica, and Mrs. Bertha Bovee of Sherrill.
Mrs. Adams was a member of Mt. Vernon Presbyterian church, Vernon, and affiliated with the Ladies Aids Society as long as health permitted. Up to the time of her recent sickness, Mrs. Adams was very active for her years, and able to be about the house, She was very alert and kept her interest in young people.
Surviving besides the two daughters, is one son, Dr. Frederick R. Adams, of Brooklyn; also five grandchildren, Mrs. Margaret A. Merz, Mrs. Norma A. Hannan, and Miss Winifred Adams, all of Brooklyn; Miss Anna Catherine Bovee, Sherrill, and Lawrence Spencer, of Utica, and one great grandson, Peter Merz.
The funeral was held Monday at the home of Mrs. Bertha Bovee, 116 Allen street, Sherrill. Rev. E. L. Evans, Rome, a former pastor officiated. Interment in the Vernon Village Cemetery.
