OBITUARIES
Funeral Services For William Baxter Will Be Held Saturday in Mallard

Mallard - Funeral services for William D. Baxter of Mallard will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. The Rev. Donald Bogue and the Rev. Darrell Mitchell will officiate.
Burial will be in Rush Lake Cemetery, Mallard. The Schellhammer-Harris Funeral Home in Mallard is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Funeral home in Mallard. Masonic Rites will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday by members of Mishna Masonic Lodge #585, Pocahontas.

Mr. Baxter died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. He was 68.
William Duane Baxter was born Oct. 14, 1928, in Smithland, the son of William N. and Elizabeth (King) Baxter. The family moved to Mallard in 1934, when William was five years old. He graduated from Mallard High School in 1947 and attended Iowa State University, Ames, for two years where he majored in farm management.
On June 19, 1949, Bill Baxter and Mary Etta Hart were married at the Ayrshire Methodist Church. The couple lived and farmed in Mallard all of their married lives.
Mr. Baxter was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mallard, and a member of the Gideon International Association. He was a member of the National Cattlemen's Association, the Iowa Cattlemen's Association and Palo Alto County Cattlemen's Association, and he was an active 4-H leader. He was a York Rite Masion of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Etta Baxter of Mallard; three daughters, Pamela Truman of Seaton, Ill., Londa Wickham of Fairmont, Minn., and Jeanne Bishop of Libertyville; two sons, William R. Baxter of Papillion, Nebr., and Garry Baxter of Beauvais, France; and ten grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister, Audrey Anne Meyer of Mallard; and his step-mother, Gertie Baxter of Mallard.
Mr. Baxter was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, LeRoy.
