He was born Sept. 6, 1915, in Lamar County. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a farmer and a resident of Cee Vee since 1927.
He was preceded in death by a stepson, Roy Don Fox, in 1972.
Survivors include a son, Dudley Dan Chewning of Paducah; a stepson, Herman Fox of Ruidoso, N.M.; a stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Box of Abilene; a brother, Wade Chewning of Amarillo; a sister, Dorothy Agapito of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and eight grandchildren.
