Funeral services were held for Mrs. Christian (Christine) Hvinden at the Viking Lutheran Church on Thursday, 15th of February at 2:00 p. m. with Rev. C. F. Turmo officiating. Mrs. Millard Kolsrud was organist and Mrs. Oscar Gilbertson and Glen Rosendahl soloists. Christine Lovlien Hvinden was born on 17 Dec 1883 in Tolgens, prestegeld, Norway. She was baptized on 6 Jan 1884 by Pastor Jervell, confirmed on 28 May 1889 by Sogneprest Jervell. She immigrated to America with her sister Bertha (Berit in Norway) on 15th November 1905 to the Albert Liudahl residence in Maddock. The two girls came to America on board the ship Saxonia. She was married to Christian Hvinden on 23 Oct 1907 at the Albert Liudahl home at Maddock by Pastor Oksendahl. She left with her husband in the fall of 1907 for Sedgewick, Canada where they filed on a homestead. They returned to Maddock in the spring of 1908 where they worked for Albert Liudahl until the fall of 1909 when they purchased their home in South Viking Township where they made their home until the spring of 1944 when they moved to Maddock. She worked occasionally at the Memorial Hopital at Maddock as a nurses aid. She left for Big Bend, ND on 30th of January to visit her son and daughter where she passed away suddenly on 9 Feb 1951 at about 10:30 p. m. in the evening at the home of her Daughter, Agnes Hvinden Arne. She was 67 years, 1 month and 23 days old. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and children: Herman Hvinden at Maddock, Agnes Mrs. Albert Arne of Big Bend, Oscar Hvinden of Maddock and Elmer Hvinden at Big Bend, ND. Also a daughter, Inga, survives in Norway. She leaves 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Several nephews and nieces and nine brothers and sisters. Ole Lovlien of Norway, John Lovlien of Chatfield, MN; Jon Lovlien of Manning, Alberta, Canada; Bertha Mrs. Ole Axness of Fargo; Clara Mrs. Martinson of Norway. Two brothers and two sisters have preceded her in death: Einar, Knute, Kjerste and Ingebret of Norway. She was a member of Viking Lutheran Church and the West Viking Ladies Aid and the Hospital Guild of the Memorial Hospital of Maddock of which she always took an active part. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all. The active pallbearers were Curtis Hvinden, Gordon Arne, Joseph Lovlien, Alton Liudahl, Henry Liudahl and Ted Liudahl. The honorary pallbearers were Joseph Bratvold, Jens Dyrud, Jim Prichard, Louis Axness, Selmer Arnston, Lawrence Bergsgaard, Francis Herbeck and Andrew Berg. Burial was in the Viking Cemetery in Block 2 Plot 13.
