Josiah Rogers Pilcher was born in Vandalia, IL on April 5, 1842, the son of Winslow Thomas Pilcher and Averilla Gatewood Pilcher. He was a farmer. On Oct 2, 1864, Josiah married Melinda Yarbrough. They had four children: Dempsey W, Charles L, Mary A, and Benjamin G Pilcher. In 1876, Josiah married Rebecca Jane Wright, and by 1880 the family was living in Kansas. Josiah and Rebeccah had five children: Josiah Micagah, James Martin, Newton Orestes, John Oscar, and William Orville Pilcher.
Josiah and Rebecca stayed in Kansas until sometime between 1895 and 1900. By the 1900 census, they had relocated to Garfield County, Oklahoma Territory.
After Rebecca died in 1902, Josiah moved to Hobart, OK, and married his third wife, Rena. By 1920 Josiah and Rena had moved to Missouri; she was originally from Arkansas. Eight years later, Josiah died in Kansas.
