Phillips family by Anna Phillips Speed,

M.M. was a farmer and well driller.


His confederate service record from
"Records of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers
by Andrew B. Booth"

Philips, M. M., Pvt. Co. D, 3rd (Wingfield's) La. Cav.
En. May 19, 1862, St. Helena Par., La.
Roll not dated, Present or absent not stated.
Roll dated Sept. 19, 1862, Present.

According to family tradition, he was captured by Union Soldiers after the Surrender of Port Hudson(July 9th 1863)
but escaped on horseback.
Wish i knew more on that story !!

He was a farmer before the war, and returned to it after.
He was also instrumental in the early commercial dairy industry in his area.
M.M. was also a well driller.

The story is that he caught a chill one February night and developed pneumonia, which ultimatly led to his death.
