Carnegie's Oldest Citizen DiesMrs. Eliza Helen Kuykendall, Carnegie's oldest citizen, who passed the century milestone on December 22, died Saturday at Passmore Nursing Home where she had been residing since April.Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian church with Rev. W. Edwin Elliott, Mountain View, officiating. Rev. Neal Lovell, local pastor, assisted. Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery with Pitcher Funeral Home in charge.Mrs. Kuykendall observed her hundredth anniversary last December 22, quietly at her home on West First. Her health had been very good during her century of living. Her eyesight had failed in the past few years and she had gradually weakened until she required help.A native of Iowa, she was born to John and Amanda Summerville. She pioneered with her parents in Kansas where she received her schooling. Later with a train of 16 wagons they moved to Texas where she was married to Jim Kuykendall at Honey Grove in 1885. Nine children were born to them, all of whom survive. Mr. Kuykendall died in 1948. More than sixty years of Mrs. Kuykendall's life has been spent in Oklahoma, moving to this area in 1904, with most of it in or near Carnegie. She was a member of the Christian church for many years.She is survived by the nine children: Mrs. Pearl Pruitt and N.B. Kuykendall of Carnegie; Jack of Sunray, Texas; Jim of Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs. Iva Auguston, Moreno, Calif.; Tom of Grand Prairie, Texas; W.H., Dallas; Mrs. Millie Tullis, Bakersfield, and John, Thousand Oaks, Calif.; 28 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
