On Sunday, 17th inst., as the sun was setting, one of our most worthy and esteemed townsmen, Amos Saddlemire, breathed his last. All that human skill and devotion could do for his recovery was done, but that love which survives death could not keep death off, and his spirit returned to the God who gave it. For honesty, uprightness and integrity, he had no superior and but few equals. He was a liberal supporter of the gospel, and his many deeds of charity will long be remembered. As a kind husband, affectionate father, true friend and neighbor, he has left an honorable and noble record. Few are laid to rest amid more genuine and tender evidences of friendship and love. All seemed to feel that they had met with a personal loss. The
beautiful lily placed by loving hands upon the silent heart was emblematic of the pure spirit that had taken its flight, and spoke
what human lips could not, of sympathy and love. The afflicted family can be sure that the sympathy of their many friends goes with them to their darkened home and that the memory of their husband and father
will long be treasured as a comfort and inspiration in the hearts of the many who knew and loved him.
