Mrs. Mercy Ann Trego, nee Featherby was born on September 18, 1819, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and died on Monday, January 25, 1904, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.M. Mowry, in Holyoke, Colorado, age 84 years, 4 months and 7 days. In April 1838 she was united in marriage with Alfred Trego and in the same year they moved to Illinois and located at Stephenson, now Rock Island, where they lived till she came to Phillips County, Colorado in 1887, where she has made her home part of the time with her son, HAA. Trego, and part of the time with her daughter, Mrs. C.M. Mowry. To them 7 children were born, 5 of whom survive their mother. Three of her children, George S. Trego, HAA. Trego and Mrs. C.M. Mowry reside in Phillips County and two, B.F. and Oscar are living in Illinois. Her husband died on February 3, 1876, at their home in Illinois. One brother survives her, George Featherby, of Holyoke. She was raised a Quaker and always remained true to the Quaker teachings, living a consistent Christian life.

She had been quite feeble for some time but was able to be around the house and on Sunday evening while eating her supper she received a stroke of paralysis from the effects of which she died on Monday evening. The funeral was conducted from C.M. Mowry's home on Wednesday afternoon Rev. S.A. Parker of Holyoke preaching the sermon and the body was laid to rest in the Holyoke cemetery. The family have the sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
