Jeannette E. DeKoker, 88, of Chesterton, Ind., died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Life Care Center of Michigan City.

She was born Aug. 10, 1921 in Chesterton to the late Jacob Ton and Ellen (Blink) Ton.

On Sept. 18, 1949, at the EUB Church in Porter, Ind., she married Larry Dekoker, who preceded her in death on March 7, 2007.

Jeannette is survived by three children, Dan (Suzi) DeKoker of San Diego, Calif., Dennis (Kim Janowski) DeKoker of Porter and Marijo (Kevin) Novinger of Michigan City; seven grandchildren, Lesley Dekoker of Portland, Ore., Chris Kane of Phoenix, Ariz., Jesi (David) Potirus of Michigan City, Amanda (Tim) Martin of San Diego, Calif., Sarah DeKoker of Valparaiso and Jim DeKoker of Phoenix, Ariz.; great-granddaughter Marley Dekoker of Lowell, Ind.; special niece, Sue Poparad of Houston, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Emily Simmons of Hollywood, Calif., and Alice Ton of Hamilton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

Jeannette was preceded in death by six brothers, Ozzie Ton, Jake Ton, Steve Ton, Swede Ton, Louie Ton and Cooney Ton; five sisters, Katherine Zieske, Nellie DeLacy, Louella Betts, Wanda Poparad and Johanna Boehm.

Jeannette was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Chesterton, where was she was a former member of the choir, member of the Companions in Christ Bible study group and was a very dedicated volunteer in the church. She was a former employee of Les Pratt Store for Men in Chesterton; during World War II, she was employed at Wilbar Manufacturing and most recently was on the cafeteria staff at Westchester Middle School.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 434 S. Second St., Chesterton, with Pastor Cathy Allison officiating. Burial to follow in Chesterton Cemetery. The family will receive friends, Friday, Oct. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. Second St., Chesterton and Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Chesterton.
