WILSON, Elder Robert -born January 18, 1820 and died January 22, 1911, aged 91 years and four days.
He was married four times and was the father of ten children, nine of whom and his fourth wife still live; joined the Primitive Baptist Church of Christ at Browney's Creek at about the age of eighteen; served as church clerk about forty years; began preaching at about the age of eighty and was ordained about two years later; and was sound in the faith, able in doctrine and melting in the pulpit; inquired for the old landmarks; was able among the very ablest fireside preachers; was a true teacher and a father in the gospel, tender and kind; lived a consistent Christian life and let his light shine in word and deed.
In his last illness he requested his friends to grieve not for him, stating that his way was perfectly clear and his doubts removed; said he loved the brethren and liked to be with them, but that he loved Jesus, too, and hence wanted to go to him. A few hours before his death he clapped his hands for joy during the singing of "O Happy Time, Long Waited For," and in full triumph of a living faith he fell asleep in Jesus.
"One of Robert Wilson's wives: Elizabeth Ann Barnett, born in 1832, Harlan, KY; died 1874, Cubage, Bell, KY. Her mother was Elizabeth Talitha Benjay Barnett, memorial #116902332. Her father was James Silas Barnett, born 2 August 1792; died 2 August 1863.
