FOUND DEAD

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon for William H. Morarend, native of Jefferson township. The services were held at the home of Erwin Morarend of Colesburg, where Mr. Morarend had been making his home.

Found In Milk House

Mr. Morarend had been in poor health for some time and Sunday evening June 6, was found dead in a milk house on the Erwin Morarend farm when the family returned from a visit with the Herbert Lundt family at Osterdock. He previously had refused an invitation by the family to accompany them on the visit.

Born July 6, in Jefferson township, Mr. Morarend was the son of Dietrich and Doris Morarend. On October 14, 1893, he married Louisa Voss in South Dakota where they made their home until about 1904. Later they returned to make their home near Guttenberg.

Sons Pallbearers

Funeral services were held in the Erwin Morarend home with Rev. S. M. Becker, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, in charge. Burial was in City cemetery. The six sons were pallbearers.

Mr. Morarend is survived by six sons and three daughters. They are Arno Morarend, Osterdock; Mrs. Ella Borcherding, Guttenberg; Henry Morarend, Gilman, Wisconsin; A. J. Morarend, Guttenberg; Archie Morarend, Guttenberg; Mrs. Cora Lundt, Osterdock; Mrs. Alfa Blume, Wyoming, Iowa; Edwin Morarend, Colesburg, and Marvin Morarend, Guttenberg.

Mrs. Morarend died July 19, 1940.

Other survivors include three brothers and four sisters, Henry of Osterdock, and John and August of Guttenberg, and Mrs. Clara Burr of Stratford, Wisconsin; Mrs. Alvina Hansel of Garber, and Mrs. P. A. Noack and Mrs. John Moser of Guttenberg.

William and Louise Voss Morarend

Wm. (Bill) Morarend born July 6, 1866, son of Dietrich and Dorothea Schroeder Morarend. Bill married Elizabeth Louise Voss born Dec. 18, 1870, on Oct. 24, 1893, in Emery, S.D.,.where they lived until 1904. He had gone there to find work. They settled on a farm in Sec. 25, 26, and 36 in Jefferson Twp.

They are the parents of nine children: Arnold, Ella married Otto Borcherding, Henry, August, Archie, Cora married Herbert Lundt, Alfa married Otto Blume, Ervin and Marvin. Henry and Marvin lived in Wis.

Upon retirement they lived south of Guttenberg and then in the rock house beside the cemetery, where a grandson, Lyle lives now.

Elizabeth Louise died July 19, 1940, and Bill died June 6, 1943. They are buried in the city cemetery.
