A.W. Whitby died at the Old Dominion hospital yesterday after having been operated upon several days ago for cancer of the stomach. Previous to his last operation, he had undergone another and felt so well that he decided to go back to is work in the mine. His friends remonstrated, but he insisted, and as a result suffered a relapse which ended in his death yesterday.

The deceased had been in Globe nearly three years, coming here from Olypatt, Lackawana county, Pennsylvania, where his wife and seven children are at present. He was a native of Cornwall, England, and 64 years of age. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows and the Miners' Union.

The widow, Mary Whitby, is left with seven children, to two oldest crippled by a railroad accident so that they are invalids and unable to help support the family.

The body will be shipped to Philadelphia by his lodges, some of which, it is said, will apply for papers of administration of is estate.

The Knights of Pythias will meet at their hall at 6 a.m. Saturday to march to the depot with the body. Henry Hudson, chancellor commander, will lead the delegate.
