Rachel Rush Goff was born on April 20, 1815, the daughter of Hiram Goff and Margaret Rush, in Randolph County, Virginia (now West Virginia). On November 26, 1835, she married George Washington Hardman. Rachel and George had 12 children, two of whom died in infancy. They raised their family at Hardman Bend in Calhoun County, West Virginia. Rachel died there on October 21, 1885 and was buried in the family cemetery on the farm there.
