Fall On Stairs Fatal to Retired Clergyman
Rev. William C. Meinzen, 86, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Fleschner, Cleveland, yesterday morning from injuries received in a fall on a stairway. He was a resident of the Lutheran Old People's Home, Kendallville, the past several years.
Rev. Mr. Meinzen graduated from Concordia College in Fort Wayne and from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in 1894. His first pastorate was at Bull Rapids, Ind. After that he founded the Lutheran Church at Woodburn. He served at Tracy, Ind., and Cincinatti, Ohio, and in 1912 went toe Indianapolis where he served until his retirement.
On his return to Fort Wayne he became a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He resided in Fort Wayne until entering the Lutheran Home.
Surviving are four sons, Lt. Col. Lawrence W., Oakland, Calif; the Rev. Erwin H., in India; Alfred M., Fort Wayne; and the Rev. Richard E., Canton, Ohio; three other daughters, Mrs. Erma Bouman, Good Thunder, Minn; Mrs. Paula Bernecker, Saginaw, Mich; and Mrs. Ellen Amt, Wausau, Wis; one brother, August, Fort Wayne; two sister, Miss Louise, Fort Wayne and Mrs. Mary Batthauer of Illinois.
Services will be held at the Rodenbeck Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Thursday, the Rev. Hartwig Schwehn officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
