She was born in Pittsburg County, Indian Territory, to Robert Lee and Elizabeth (Young) McCarty) She grew up in the Tannehill area. She married Etham Lee Durant on Dec. 24, 1924 in McAlester. He preceded her in death in August 1970. She was an original Choctaw Indian enrollee. She passed away at the McAlester hospital at the age of 93. Survivors include a son, Bennie Durant of McAlester; four daughters, Lois Ward of Tulsa, Veta Dryden of Oklahoma City, Patsy Dyer of Tulsa and Susie Boatner of McAlester; 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; a sister, Virgil Turney of McAlester; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Robert Joe Durant, Edward L. Durant and Elmer Durant; and a daughter, Lillian Duncan.
