Bennie DeWayne Durant, 84, Retired 1st Lieutenant with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and former Pittsburg County Sheriff, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2019 at home with family by his side.

Bennie served in the United States Army. He enjoyed playing golf, watching OU football and was a member of First Baptist Church in McAlester.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Rose Durant; daughter, Diana “Prissy” Lorber; two sons, Alan Durant and Dwight Durant; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Lois Ward and Laveta Dryden; brother-in-law, James Ward; sisters-in-law, Johnye Barnes and Nora Enis; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, a private memorial was held for his family in his honor.
