Major League Baseball Player. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a right handed pitcher making his debut with the Cleveland Indians on April 30, 1919. For seventeen seasons, he played with the Cleveland Indians (1919-28 and 1936), Detroit Tigers ( 1929-33) and New York Giants in 1934. He ended his career with a record of 200 wins, 166 loss, 232 complete games, 21 shutouts, 25 saves, 1135 strikeouts and a 3.99 earned run average. As a batter, he holds the Major League record for a pitcher with 393 hits, 172 runs scored, 9 homeruns, 187 runs batting in and a .289 batting average. He died at age 86 in Lakewood, Ohio.
