CIVIL WAR VETERAN

Charles Adolph enlisted on July 17th, 1863, at New York City, New York, for three years service, at the age of 19, and was mustered into service as a Private in Company A of the 17th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment on August 7th, 1863, at Camp Sprague, Staten Island, New York. He served with the regiment through its campaigns in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, as part of the army of Major General William T. Sherman. He was mustered out of service with the Company on July 13th, 1865, at Alexandria, Virginia.

Charles was born in Germany. He was the husband of Anna Elizabeth Adolph. He served in the Civil War, Co. A 17th New York Vol. Inf. He was a member of GAR McPherson Post No. 51 and was Post Commander in 1913. He died at the Soldier's Home, Sawtelle, Los Angeles Co., CA., age 76 years. Pall Bearers at his funeral were the Hanford Fire Department.Additional information in the following website:
