William Clark, who had been ill for some weeks, passed away suddenly October 23, 1905 in Bement. The funeral was held October 26 at the M. E. Church with interment in Bement Cemetery; E.C. Camp Post 149 G.A.R. will have charge of the services.

He was born in Sommesetshire, England on June 12, 1828 and came to the United States in 1855, settling in Lorain County, Ohio. He was there only a short time when he came to Piatt County and has lived here since. He enlisted in 1862 and served in Co. H IL Vol. Infantry during the Civil War. He was mustered out at the close of the war at Camp Butler, Springfield.

After the war he lived in Monticello township on a farm. He was twice married; there were five children by the first wife; his second wife was Mrs. Eliza Gulliford, widow of Thomas Gulliford. About three years ago he moved to Bement from the farm southwest of town and made his home in the Frank Torrence property.

Mr. Clark was a familiar figure, good disposition, a good neighbor and will be missed by many friends.
