Pioneer of State Buried Tuesday
Wm. Frissell, aged 83, who crossed the plains in 1852, a member of the well known Frissell pioneer family, active throughout Willamette valley communities and Portland, died last Saturday afternoon at his home in Cascade Locks. Funeral services were held from the family residence Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Troy Shelley officiating. Interment followed at the Cascade Locks cemetery.
The family settled in Polk county. Mr. Frissell later went to eastern Oregon and was active in freighting to the mines of the Boise, Ida., region and Canyon City. He resided for many years in Wasco county, moving to Cascade Locks about 30 years ago. Two daughters survive, Mrs. Lillian Harris and Mrs. William Ash, of Portland. A single brother is living - G. L. Frissell, of Portland. Brothers and sisters, who have died, all of whom were outstanding figures in Oregon pioneer life, were: Joseph Frissell and Mrs. Hugh McNary, of Portland; J. P. Frissell, of Salem, and Mrs. Alex Holmes, of Polk county.
The funeral was directed by C. C. Anderson.
