Nanny Octavia Connelly was the youngest of twelve children born to Robert Wainwright Connelly (1845-1903), a Confederate soldier, and his second wife Mary "Polly" McRee (1850-1945).

Nanny married Carl Gwynn Van Pelt (1887-1962) in 1909. He was a son of William Worth Van Pelt and his wife Eliza Ann Lipe.

Nanny and Carl had at least five children, an infant daughter (1909-1910), William Bruce Van Pelt (1910-1968), Sarah Pauline Van Pelt (1917-2005, Mrs. Gray O. Howard), Samuel Fred Van Pelt (1920-1995) and Carl Gwynn Van Pelt, Jr. (1922-2000).

Many thanks to Mike and Jane Deal for letting me know I had Nanny's mother's name wrong, and for the extensive information on their memorial to her.
