Mrs Sarah Nye Dies at Horton
Funeral Held Saturday for Aged Lady
Had been Ill for Months with Cancer
Sarah Ellen Harris, daughter of John H and Matietta Harris, was born near Clyde, Ill., March 15, 1850, and died at Horton July 10. Her mother being a widow, she was adopted by Mr and Mrs John Huff when just a baby.
She was married to F G Monning July 13, 1866, and to this union six children were born, four surviving their mother: F W Monning of Anguena, Calif; Mrs Esther See of Dike, Iowa; Flora Wilcox of Horton; and H J Manning of Burton, Wash. Mrs See and Mrs Wilcox were present at the funeral.
In 1884 she was married to A M Bartholomew. To this union five children were born, three surviving their mother: J H Bartholomew of Stanton, Nebr; G W Bartholomew of Diamond Bluff, Wisc; and Mrs George Cassing of Panca, Nebr. Mrs Cassing was present at the funeral.
In 1913 she was married to Mr Nye, who preceded her in death six years ago. She has made her home with Mrs See and Mrs Wilcox since his death. In April of this year, she came to the Wilcox home where she failed rapidly. She was confined to her bed four weeks suffering from cancer. She is survived by one sister, Mrs Florence Hall of Portland Ore. and a half sister, Mrs Frances Alkire of Stanton, Nebr.; twenty nine grandchildren, thirty six great-grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Advent church.
Funeral services were held at Horton church Saturday afternoon and were conducted by H A Fish, pastor of the Advent church of Marshalltown. She was buried in Harlington cemetery in Waverly.
