Mrs. Martha C. Booth, relict of Geo. W. Booth, departed this life May 10, 1877, near Jacksonville, Cherokee County, Texas. She was born August 4, 1822; was left a lonely widow in the year 1850 with eight children. She lived to see them all grown, and all in the Methodist Church, save one. May the spirit of God follow him. She was a member of the Methodist Church long before I can recollect. She was indeed a kind mother. She spared no effort in the nuture and admonition of the Lord. Through her life, she was a devoted Christian and when the end drew near she was ready. In a letter to her daughter in Alabama a few days previous to her illness, she says; "I am not well, nor do I ever expect to be in this world; but I feel today I am ready to go and hope to meet you where parting will be no more." She was suddenly and sorely stricken with paralysis a few days before her death but seemed to realize that earthly afflictions but work out for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
May the blessed spirit overshadow with its power all of her children and grandchildren and bring them at last unto the heavens eternal rest. T. T. Booth
