Janet Clapsaddle Bailey, of Gettysburg, died October 3, 2009.

Born August 7, 1924 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of Emory J. and Mary C. (Sowers) Clapsaddle.

Janet was a veteran of the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1945, serving as a supply clerk. She married Daniel Bailey (CW04 Ret. USAF, deceased) and became a military wife and homemaker for 29 years, traveling throughout the United States, Japan, and Germany. During these years she was an avid bowler and enjoyed reading, sewing, and Japanese embroidery.

She devoted her life to her children, never missing a single baseball or basketball game or other school activities.

Janet was a member of the American Legion Post 202 and the Gettysburg Moose Lodge.

Surviving is a daughter, Jeane Mims of Fort Walton Beach, FL; a granddaughter, Kelli Dowell and husband Steve; two great-granddaughters, Bailey and Whitney of Jackson, MS; three sisters, Marion Fortenbaugh of Marysville, Arlene Murray and Edie Funt and husband Dave, both of Gettysburg; two brothers, Arthur Clapsaddle and wife Judy of Newark, DE, and Keith Clapsaddle of Fredericksburg, VA; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Mike and Jeff Eckert.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death earlier this year by her partner of 32 years, Eugene Eckert; a son, CMSgt (Ret. USAF) Daniel Bailey, Jr.; a sister, Anna Clappsaddle; and a brother, Earl Clapsaddle.
