Services for Beatrice Marie Bates, 71, of Kemp were held at the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, with the Revs. Byron Jones and Denny Gorena officiating.

Interment followed at Ware Cemetery in Kaufman County under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp.

Mrs. Bates was born Sept. 24, 1931, in Cherokee County to Roy and Grace (Lamb) Wornick. She died Oct. 15, 2002, in Tyler. She married Elmer Harold Bates on June 20, 1948, in Troup. He preceded her in death on April 6, 1999. Her parents also preceded her.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Sue Bates and Gary and Marie Bates; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Charles Richardson, Alice and William Brown, and Pam and Jimmy Raines; grandchildren, Timmy Bates, Tommy Miller and wife Christie, Leigh Ann De Priest and husband, Rodney, Greg Bates, Greg Frazier and wife Kristi, Jason Miller, Sharon Clay and husband Chase, Joanie Bates, Lea
Melton, Elizabeth Melton and husband David, Daniel Bates and Sara Bates; great-grandchildren, Kaylee De Priest, Tori De Priest, Jonathan Frazier, Richard Chase, Wade Miller, Alexandria Frazier, Jacob Frazier, and Halie Winn. She is also survived by brothers, Larry Wornick and wife Wanda, LeRoy Wornick, and mother-in-law, Dovie Bates.

Pallbearers were Tommy Miller, Jason Miller, Allen Brown, Daniel Bates, Greg Frazier and Tracy Thompson.
