Cedar Valley Daily Times, Vinton IA, 11May1992 - Hazel Viola Jessop, 88, Vinton, died Friday, May 8, 1992, at her residence in Cedar Falls, of natural causes. Born September 3, 1903, in Coin, Iowa, she was the daughter of Theodore and Minnie Tneyck Wood. During her childhood, she and her family moved by covered wagon to the state of Nebraska, where she met her husband, John Jessop. The couple were married in Cheyenne, Wyoming, January 7, 1920, and made their home in Nebraska until 1964, when they moved back to Iowa, residing in Vinton. Mrs Jessop's husband preceded her in death October 19, 1964. She then continued living in Vinton until 1991 when she moved to Cedar Falls and lived with her daughter, Mary. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Garrison. Mrs Jessop is survived by one son, Jim and Shirlee Jessop of Vinton; four daughters, Mary Allen of Cedar Falls, Helen (Mrs Charles) KInney of Kimball NE, Viola (Mrs Tom) Springer of Heppner OR, and Lily (Mrs Milton) Scheib of Swisher. She also is survived by grandchildren she raised in her home, Wayne Holliday and Violet Neil, plus 15 other grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia; two sons, Clarence and Verl; three brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren, including one she raised in her home, Francis Holliday, and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held today, Monday, May 17, at 1:30 pm at the Church of the Brethren, Garrison, with the Revs Greg Altizer, Gene Burry, and Glen Taylor officiating. Burial was at the Evergreen cemetery, Vinton. A memorial fund has been established.
