Major League Baseball Player. He was an infielder for five teams in seventeen years in the majors. Born Terrence Lamont Turner, he played with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1901), Cleveland Blues (1904), Cleveland Naps (1905 to 1914), Cleveland Indians (1915 to 1918), and Philadelphia Athletics (1919). In 5,921 plate appearances he batted .253 with 528 runs batted in. He was a fearless base stealer and pioneered the use of the head-first slide. From 1906 to 1911 he averaged 25.5 steals in each season, with a career-high 31 in 1910. He led American League shortstops in fielding percentage four times.
