Emma Velma Mayfield Clay was born to Joseph Hollum Mayfield and Florinda, "Rendy Lou" Waggoner Mayfield. Although her death certificate lists her as being a Mason, she was not nor was her husband J. J. Clay, but Walter Jackson Clay. Emma was the sister of Yakley Mayfield, my great-grandfather and father of my grandmother, Myree Mayfield Helton. History has a way of distorting facts and sadly, this is the case here. Emma and Walter had three children: Clifford Wendell, Zeno Alexander "Sandy" and Glenda Alfa or Alba as the family differ. Regardless, she was a beautiful lady full of love and affection for her family.
