Son of Chesley Daniel and Sarah Jane Haseldon Evans, husband of Emma Legare Salley. Nathan served in hospital corps during Spanish American War, 1898.

Having no children of their own, Nathan and Emma raised Emma's nephew, William Hutson Salley. Hutson's mother died during childbirth, his father, Emma's brother, had died the month before. The 1930 census states Hutson was adopted but was shown with the last name Salley.
