Sarah was the eldest child of Elizabeth Keene Godbold and Major John Haseldon. In her youth it is said that she was very beautiful. She married Chesley Daniel Evans on December 09, 1847.

"Jane Haselden, a very pretty girl, married, in 1850, Hon. C. D. Evans, of the Marion bar, and has had and raised seven sons and one daughter. Mrs. Jane Evans is now a widow, and an excellent lady she is." History of Marion County, page 224

"Sarah Jane Haseldon was one of the three children and only daughter of Maj. John Haseldon (Third son of Wm. Haseldon, an Englishman, and Mary Rebecca daughter of Stephen and Mary (Gaillard) Bradley), and his wife, Elizabeth Keen, the eldest daughter and sixth child of Thomas and Mary (Fladger) Godbold. Sarah Fladger was daughter of Henry Fladger Esq of Revolutionary fame, and his wife, Elizabeth, daughter of Buckmgham Keen and his wife, Elizabeth Horry, a sister of Gen. (5) Walker William Evans, born December 26, 1856.
(6) Samuel Evans, born August 29, 1858; died December 19, 1899.
(7) Frank Evans, born May 08, 1861.
(8) Leon Evans, born March 1864; died March 25, 1876.
(9) John Belamy Evans, born May 16, 1866. John died during infancy.

(11) David Evans, born October 16, 1874 in SC.

MARION - Mrs S. J. Evans, widow of the late Chestley D. Evans, died this morning. Mrs Evans was the mother of Frank Evans, superintendent of the Spartanburg public schools, Walker Evans of Clio, Nathan Evans of Marion, T. Evans of Chicago and Miss Bettie Evans.

Mrs Evans was one of the oldest residents of Marion and was the oldest member of the Methodist church of Marion. The funeral services will be held tomorrow.
