Grace Elizabeth Forbes was born at Boring, Clackamas Co., OR to Joseph Alonzo and Elizabeth Aletha Smith Forbes on 14 November 1880. She was the seventh of eight surviving children. She graduated from Good Samaritan School of Nursing, Portland, in 1906 and became a registered nurse on 19 October 1911. She worked as a nurse until her marriage to Wesley Dean Cline on 5 August 1917 at Sunnyside Methodist Episcopal Church, Portland. She had two children, Dean Forbes Cline and Grace Elizabeth Cline. After her husband's death in 1928, she returned to nursing. She married Edwin John Maple 29 May 1942 in Forest Grove, Washington Co., OR, where she lived until her death in 1965.
