In the fall of 1916 Paul with his brothers Otto and Henry drove the Burmeister threshing rig from Sutherland to Iona, MN, using dirt roads because of the lugs on the tractor wheels, also driving a team of 4 horses. The horses were needed to get gas to keep the tractor moving. In 1917 Paul and Henry attended the Sweeney Auto School in Kansas City, MO. Returning to MN he operated the auto repair shop at Avoca, MN. Paul married Hannah E Olson on 26 November 1919 at Balataon MN. Paul and Hannah had no children. While working at Avoca Paul invented and received patents on motor radiatorsand a door operating mechanism. Paul and Hannah moved to Chokio area in 1924 and farmed just to the west of that town. in the 1940s Paul was active in the AAA program at Morris MN office. He retired from farming in 1946 and moved to Detroit lakes, MN. spedning his winters in the southern US. In the late 1950s Paul and Hannah moved permanently to FLorida. after Hannas death, paul married Thelma Glass Osborne. Due to failing health, Pual returned to MN after Thelmas death and was living at the Grace Home at the time of his death. (story taken from The Burmeister Story)
