James Nelson Byrd (2-26-1820- 3-25-1894) was granted Honmestead rights by President John Tyler . James moved his wife Jane Myles Byrd. ( 1818-1878) and family from Greenhbriar Co, Va. in 1957, to land that he had homesteaded in Livinston Co, Mo.. Their seven childrend were Virginia (Jennie), John Myles, Mary Ann, Orlenah, Paul, Roberta Ann, and Mark Joseph. Eventually a large southern mansion type of house was built on the east side of the road that crosses Brush Creek, Grelton Byrd lived there later..
Paul was the son who remained in Livingston county. He was born march 9, 1853, and died June 6 1919 and was buried in Chillicothe. He was a trader in horses, mules and cattle and up in "the forks of the river" on the old Spring Hill Road when he stopped at the home of James David & Margaret McWillilams Gibbs. there he met their youngest daughter, catherine Louise Venora (Katie) (9-26-1859--1-10-1946).. They were married In July 1878.. They had 6 children. Paul J., Grelton Angus, Roy Oliver, Mary Grace.
