Mama (Kennedy) Conner was a small woman who remembered her childhood very well and related many stories to her grandchildren. One of the stories related to this author was her memories of the time when railroads started placing "cowcatchers" on the front of locomotives. She felt that this practice was cruel on the part of the railroad companies because it killed the cows that wandered onto the tracks.
Mama Conner was called "Jodie" in the 1920 census for Angelina County. Only Erma, Guy, Willie, and Versa were still living at home in 1920. Mama Conner's sister, Etta Kennedy was also living with the family in 1920.
Joanna is buried beside her husband in the NE part of the Whitehouse Cemetery (in 1991 she had only a very small head tombstone).
