Ruth Heald Crawford born September 5, 1923, was first and foremost, a Mother, a loving kind soul, who recognized the perfection in every child. Her 3 children marked her life with joy, satisfaction, and pride. She made a home and & raised her children, with her husband of 55 years, Charlie Crawford, in Pharr, TX. Ruth was an accomplished country cook. Her chocolate cake was a family favorite. She was also an accomplished seamstress. Her children remember fondly their `identical' Easter outfits. After her children grew, left home and her retail career ended, she enjoyed a pleasant retirement in Port Mansfield, TX on Laguna Madre Bay. Ruth loved shell hunting on Padre Island; Ruth had an eye for beauty in even the simplest shell fragment. Frequently from their deck, overlooking the bay, they rang the "Happy Hour Bell". This called neighbors to join them for an informal gathering with lively spirits. Border Buttermilk, tequila & lime juice was a favorite of Ruth's and a standard offering at these events.

With their children living elsewhere, and their camper van, they enjoyed many road trips. They made frequent stops, loved back roads and out of the way places. They both boasted enjoying a ``skinny dip' in a creek or river into their late 70's. Ruth found it to be, "a lovely retirement, nicer than I could have ever imagined". For their final years, Ruth and Charlie moved to Mandeville, LA. Here they spent their time with family, enjoyed small trips, cared for each other and finally allowed their family the opportunity to care for them. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Charlie, her Mother and Father (Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heald), her three siblings, (Fern, Josie and Jimmy) and grand daughter (Nichole). She did not believe in holding onto sadness but instead clung to the joy of family stories and memories. She looked each day to the simple joys that brought her appreciation and joy.

Ruth is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Jim and Lee Crawford of Hockinson, WA, Dennis and Barb Crawford of Port Mansfield, TX. and Kathy and John Powers of Mandeville, LA. To her 6 Grand children & 5 Great-Grandchildren she was known simply as Momma Ruth or Bee-bah. She remains a guiding light in their lives.

Her final wish, to return home, to Texas, without ceremony, and take her final rest next to her husband and near family, is fulfilled by her children. She is left as she left her family, in peace and with love.
