Obituary of Adelheid Holshlag January 23, 1913
New Hampton, Iowa
Mrs. Adelheid Holschlag, a well known woman of south of this city, passed away last Friday afternoon, Jan. 17, 1913, at ten minutes to ten o'clock after a lingering illness from heart trouble, involving dropsical and asthmatic conditions. Mrs. Holschlag suffered much and endured for a long time patiently the inconvenience of being unable to breath except in a sitting position. The end came peaceably, and found this faithful woman ready.
The maiden name of the deceased was Adelheid Brus and she was born in Halden Raise Reis, Regierungs Bezirke Duhseldorf, Germany, Sept. 10, 1839.
When a girl she came to America, settling at Davenport, Iowa, where she was married to Mr. Henry W. Holschlag in St. Kunegunde church, Sept. 13, 1864.
They removed to Chickasaw county at an early day (sic) and settled on the farm south of town, where Mr. Holschlag passed away Nov. 10, 1899. Mrs. Holschlag continued to manage the farm with the help of her young boys and lived to see them all comfortably settled in life.
Mrs. Holschlag was the mother of twelve children, of whom eight survive her. The children who preceded her in death were Cara Elizabeth, died Oct. 5, 1870; Adelheid Augusta, died Mary 29, 1873; Anton Edward, died March 29, 1880; and Freddie Longinus, died Jan. 26, 1886.
The surviving children are Mrs. Matilda Delsing of Hemingford, Neb.,; Mrs. Peter Brommenschenkel of Ada, Minn.; Mrs. Lena Brus of Alta Vista; Mrs. Annie L. Peters, Henry, Theo., John and Ben Holschlag of New Hampton township. All were present at the funeral to pay the last loving tribute of filial love and devotion to the memory of her who had guided them and blessed them with a mother's love throughout all the years.
The funeral was held at St. Mary's Catholic church on Tuesday, Requiem mass being celebrated by the pastor, Rev. B. H. Forkenbrock, and interment was beside the grave of her husband in St. Mary's cemetery.
